Announcements for October

If you couldn’t make our October 12th meeting, you missed a good one. We had six competitors throw off. Our potters battled each other challenge after challenge. It was very close, but our non-biased judges finally chose BRIAN BACHMAN as this year’s winner. The cheese cake could not go to a better person. Thanks to Gregg, Gretchen, Mary, Erica, and Rusty for giving it a whorl.

Updates:

Studio Tour. For those participating in the Studio Tour (and those who want to help) postcards are available for distribution. A jpg file is available for social media and printing flyers to post around town. Please start SHARING the event on FACEBOOK and other social media. We will also have a twitter feed with the #TCAStudioTour to post ongoing pictures of the event. Webpage and brochures/maps are still being developed. If you are not hosting, and would like to help, please contact me.

Potter for Hire: For those interested in being advertised as a Potter for Hire, please fill out the application and send me images. We should have a lot of web traffic from the studio tour, so get your information to me by the end of October.

Nancy Jefferson is hosting a raku workshop SUNDAY October 23rd from 9:00 – 3:00 at LeMoyne. Bring your own bisque - $30 per person. CALL Nancy directly to let her know you are coming. 850-766-5765

A new director of Lafayette Arts and Crafts Center has been hired. This person will start probably in December or January.

Tile and Mosaic Workshop with Hope Leedom and myself – November 5th and 12th $45/$60 - Registration deadline October 31st.

Millstone Plantation – Craft School of the Arts

Millstone Plantation is an old farm on Lake McBride off of Thomasville Road. Majken Petersen and Joan Helms are working to make this into a craft school and they asked area potters for help to establish some type of pottery there.

After our first trip to see the location, there seems to be enough interests from members of Tallahassee Clay Arts to build a pit and/or raku firing ring. This would be a great opportunity for people to learn how to build a simple kiln and hopefully have a place to fire outdoors regularly.

To start, TCA need donations of kiln parts to build kilns . Any old kilns, regulators, valves, fire bricks, kiln shelves, gloves, tongs, metal air vents and tubing, 40# propane tanks, glazes are sought. If you want to donate these, please contact Sue Stelzmann.

Based on donations, we will have a kiln building event some weekend January. If you are interested in learning to build kilns and want to help with this part of the project, Please let Sue know.
