National Clay Week Open Studio

October 16, 2017

Over a hundred people dropped in at a local studio to watch pottery being made as part of National Clay Week Open Studio October 14 and 15 in Tallahassee.   Spectators made bowls by turning clay on a wheel and watched a dramatic Raku firing during this two day event.  The event was hosted by Tallahassee Clay Arts to celebrate clay and shine a spotlight on the talented clay artists and potters in our community.   Master potters and sculptors demonstrated their techniques with clay while folks from 6 to 86 came to witness what a lump of clay can become.

Tallahassee Clay Arts is an organization lead by Sue Stelzmann that connects people who work in clay.  The next event will be the third annual Ceramic Studio Tour November 18.  This year eight ceramic studios will open their doors to sell pottery, sculpture, jewelry and art.  It is the perfect opportunity to find a one of a kind, locally made gift.   Lafayette Arts and Craft Center will be features in the tour.   Tour maps and a description of the artists’ venues are available at www.TallyClayArts.com.   Come meet the artists and peek inside the studios during this daylong event.
